The Samhain-Halloween Connection

Hello again, season of falling temperatures, falling leaves and pumpkin-spiced everything! Many of us naturally seem to want to spend these quickly darkening days warming our bellies, cuddling under blankets and preparing for that wondrous night of frolic and folly that is just around the corner - Halloween. But before you pick those pumpkins and untangle all the cobwebbery, why not take a moment to read up on why so many of us disguise ourselves in costume, collect sweets from our neighbours and gather with others to celebrate spooky things each year on October 31st (and no, it’s not just for the candy grab or scaring the heck out of our loved ones - but those things sure are fun!)....

Me, Myself and I Time

Despite the fact that human beings are social creatures who rely a great deal on connection and cooperation with others in order for the species to survive and thrive, it would really serve folks to carve out time to do some things on their own. Though the pandemic has forced us into social isolation at times, at least we know that being alone, particularly when we feel we need to be and choose to be, can give us a lot of good stuff. It can create opportunities for us to really get to know ourselves as we spend time on our own interests and let our own, unique talents blossom.

The Fear of Missing Out

At the end of the day, FOMO is not a new concept, it just has a newer, hipper name. FOMO seems “all bad” but much like any other challenge or unpleasant feeling, even FOMO can be reframed as a valuable asset. It can inspire you to act on something you’ve been putting off, or maybe even encourage you to reach out and include others in your plans and endeavours.
